What presidents do in office has little to do with what they say 
beforehand, because, to become serious candidates, they must adhere to 
ruling class policy; but to be popularly elected, they must lie about 
it, because there's such a gap between ruling class policy and the 
interests of the majority.

Nixon goes to China (as not Democrat could); Clinton ends welfare (as 
not Republican could) ... and Obama may profit from their example.  --CGE
