Is there a point to it, though?  At least half of those empires were
themselves of Middle Eastern origin.  You could take a map of just about any
part of the world, over such a long span of time, and show a similar ebb and
flow of civilizations and empires.  Is there anything particularly special
about the Middle East?  Carl doesn't usually post something unless it
somehow displays Western civilization in a bad light.  I'm not seeing it
here.
