Subject: "Happier Babies in France" - NPR

It is truly a different moment in our history when NPR - which is
typically pretty pro-corporate - runs a program comparing US
healthcare to the national health care program in **FRANCE**!! I
almost drove off the road this morning!

http://www.npr.org/

They said no less than 4 times: "France - a country that spends less
than half of what the US spends on healthcare per person, and covers
everyone." or words to that effect.

Then they went on to give details about how pregnant mothers in
binational couples (US-France) were deciding to have their babies in
France because they were taken care of so much better there and that
even when they wanted to have their babies in the US, they couldn't
get health coverage because US health insurance agents were telling
them that they couldn't insure "a house on fire" (i.e. a pregnant
woman - because pregnancy is considered a pre-existing condition!)!

I know it's just one program, but others have told me that it's not
just the auto industry that's panicked about health care costs. It
seems likely to me that corporate America may have really changed its
mind about the need to do something drastic with health care.

Best,
John
