[Peace-discuss] Scarcity of linguists makes it hard to wage war

I think y're safe here in the good old US of A, Ricky. You may wanna start yr kids on arabic, tho', just in case...
The friend I mentioned (gay, translates for the fibbies) lived in Egypt for a long, long time, is fluent in arabic (speaking and writing). He was hired shortly after the Bush admin/Pentagon/military realized their error in firing all those gay translators. I bet he knows how to say the worst thing ever in arabic (and I hope he mentally directs it daily twds the Bush admin, etc).

I know a guy who's off to Afghanistan, but first he's up to his eyeballs
in - I think Pashto - but it isn't clear to me for what purpose. It takes
years and years to master a language well enuf to, say, tell when someone's
subtly pulling your leg.

A friend from Pakistan did, however, teach me how to say "the worst thing
you can say to someone in Pashto". I hope they don't try to send me
:-)
