If anyone is interested on issues pertaining to Afghanistan, Jennifer
McCarthy, a geographer who has focused her research on conflict in the
region has just started a Afghanistan Study Group listserv. It might be
a good forum for exchanging ideas and getting some new perspectives if
you're especially interested in Afghanistan, and on the toll the
conflict there is taking.

The details for subscribing are below.

*Subject:* New! Afghanistan Study Group Listserv

Dear ASG members,

I am very pleased to announce that the Afghanistan Study Group now has a
JISC listserv: "AFGHANSTUDYGROUP". I would encourage you join this
listerv as I will use it as my main means to announce ASG events. This
list will allow those of you who subscribe to send a single email out to
all subscribers of this list.

I am hopeful that the listserv will provide a dynamic forum for
discussion and information sharing among all of us. All subscribers of
the listserv will be able to post to the entire list. Tahir Shaaran and
I will moderate the discussion to ensure the system is not abused and
that discussions are appropriate and relevant to the ASG mandate. We
will continue to keep the ASG website updated as normal, though this
listserv will become our main mode of communication and we are hoping
that all ASG members will be list subscribers within the next month.

1) To join the list:
Send an email with a blank subject line and "subscribe AFGHANSTUDYGROUP
FIRSTNAME LASTNAME" (while inserting your own first and last name) in
the body of the email to: listserv at jiscmail.ac.uk
<mailto:listserv at jiscmail.ac.uk>

2) To post (send an email) to the whole list of subscribers:
Send your posting to AFGHANSTUDYGROUP at jiscmail.ac.uk
<mailto:AFGHANSTUDYGROUP at jiscmail.ac.uk>

3) The list's homepage is:
www.jiscmail.ac.uk/AFGHANSTUDYGROUP

I very much look forward to strengthening our growing community through
more frequent communication and wider member engagement. Please contact
me should you have questions regarding subscribing to the list.

With warm regards,

Jennifer
