[Peace-discuss] Thank you Ireland

The "Treaty of Lisbon" was securely defeated by voters in the Republic of Ireland yesterday.

And the Irish people have come through for the benefit of Europeans who favor workers' rights, democracy, independence and freedom.

A nation that still hasn't been entirely freed from her majesty's oppressive hold has stood up for her compatriots in France and the Netherlands, who already voted against the "European Constitution," the hunk of neo-liberal trash that morphed into the current treaty. Some of us worked tirelessly and endlessly to defeat the beast, only to see it re-appear under a new name with the same intent in mind: streamline economic decision making Europe-wide so that the pesky people with their annoying demands of social equality and workers' justice would stop interfering with the work of big business.

In the United States, big business merely saw to the fact that workers stopped valuing education and were thus left in the dark. In Europe, they had to compete with educated societies and so they sided with Europhiles based in Brussels, pushing the dominance of big capital under the guise of "peace and unity."

No better occasion to bust out your finest bottle of Irish whiskey and raise a toast to our brothers and sisters in Ireland.

No real good post-vote analysis out there in English yet, since the mainstream press has handled this issue so horribly: demonstrating how out of touch the corporate press is with the vast majority of the people.

Good articles about the "no" movement in Ireland, site not updated yet today:

In French, some fantastic analysis of these developments:
