[Peace-discuss] Re: [Peace] NEED ONE MORE PERSON: National Assembly to End the Iraq War and Occupation

John W., we are all assets and liabilities. But mostly assets. I think Carl would be
one of the first to recognize that we are all assets.

This brings me back to a discussion that was attempted during the AWARE
meeting.

The conference in Cleveland is about the one issue of Iraq. All other issues are
separated from this.

While some see the focus on Iraq as a way to unite the largest number of
people, others see this as a failure to see how it is all part of the WAR --
including Afghanastan, Pakistan, Israel, Palestine, Iran, control of oil resources,
sanctions, and US foreign policy that started many presidents ago and continues
on the same wrong track.

I would like to see a bit of discussion on this particular issue -- whether it is
better for the Cleveland conference to focus on Iraq or whether it should have
gone broader. I am particularly interested in such a discussion because I believe
both Ghandi and ML King were criticized for focusing on one issue and not
always taking a stand on related issues or timely issues where leadership were
sought. ML King did, after some time, take a very strong stance against the
Vietnam War, but he at first declined.
