I hope that this message will be widely forwarded.

  Friends,

The firing of rockets from Gaza into Israel is illegal, immoral, and a bad tactic. Nevertheless, the elected government of Palestine has been arrested by Israel, Gaza has been starved, and Hamas offers for ceasefire have been rejected. Clearly it is Israel that wants to escalate the conflict and continue the carnage. They are willing to sacrifice their own citizens to do so--the entire town of Sederot can be moved, just as individuals were evacuated from northern Israel during the Lebanon invasion of 2006. It is kept there to offer a pretext for Israel's suffocation of Gaza, which distracts attention from ongoing ethnic cleansing and annexation of the West Bank.

There has been no "moral equivalence" in this conflict since Day 1, which can be thought of as the day in 1917 when Britain declared--without legal authority--that Jews were entitled to build a homeland on land owned and tended by Palestinian Arabs. There has certainly been no "moral equivalence" since, subsequent to the U.N. partition resolution in November 1947, (declared under U.S. pressure and without a word of Palestinian or Arab input), Zionist forces began systematically cleansing 300,000 Palestinians prior to Israel's declaration of independence in May 1948, prior to the "invasion of 5 Arab armies" (a dramatic exaggeration in itself). Another 400,000 or more Palestinians were cleansed after May 1948.

This occupation has continued for 40 years, in spite of implicit Palestinian recognition of Israel in the 1970s, and explicit recognition in 1988. The purpose of occupation and colonization is the same as of any other settler-colonialist movement: to expel or confine the native peoples, and to disappear their history and culture.

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to protest Israeli and American criminality this morning, which continues only with American support.

  David Green

will there also be a condemnation of hamas for using rockets to kill Israeli civilians also. Which if stopped would cause Israel to cease their current aggresive operations in the Gaza.

Should we not protest the killing of any civilians whether Israeli or Palestinian?
