Any email of unknown original provenance that breathlessly warns of an
impending threat and urges you to forward the information immediately
to everyone you know is almost certainly an email hoax.

A good check is: does the email contain a link to a reputable website?

If so, does the information on the reputable website match the
information in the email?

[Before clicking the link on the reputable website, check that it
points where it says it does. You can do this easily in most browsers
by hovering your mouse over the link - the browser should display the
actual link pointed to. If the two don't match, delete the email
without clinking the link.]
