Subject: David Makovsky: International Journalist at UIUC

Dear Academic Professional,

We would like to invite you to attend a luncheon on April 1st, starting at
12:30, at the Hillel Foundation. David Makovsky will be talking about Iran
and the threat it poses to the global community, as well as Israel
specifically. This has been a controversial topic that has been discussed
nationally, and we are privileged to have Champaign be a stop in his busy
schedule. He is coming from Washington D.C. to speak to a selective
audience of educated individuals and it would provide us great pleasure if
you would join us. Lunch will be provided by Hillel during the talk. See
below for some information on David Makovsky.

David Makovsky is a senior fellow and director of The Washington Institute's
Project on the Middle East Peace Process as well as an adjunct lecturer in
Middle Eastern Studies at Johns Hopkins University's Paul H. Nitze School of
Advance International Studies (SAIS). Most recently, he co-authored the
book, Lessons and Implications of the Israel-Hezbollah War: A Preliminary
Assessment.

He is a current member of the Council of Foreign Relations and the
London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies. As an
Arab-Israeli relations expert, his extensive commentary has appeared in
publications such as Foreign Affairs, the Washington Post, the New York
Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal,
the Chicago Tribune, the Financial Times, Foreign Policy, and National
Interest.

Mr. Makovsky worked as an award-winning journalist between 1989-2000
covering the peace process as a diplomatic correspondent for the Israeli
newspaper Haaretz and later as executive editor of the Jerusalem Post.
Furthermore, he served for eleven years as the special Jerusalem
correspondent for U.S News and World Report. Mr. Makovsky became the first
journalist writing for an Israeli publication to visit Damascus and has
traveled to Syria five times, his last trip being in 1999 to accompany
then-Secretary of State Madeline Albright. He received a bachelor's degree
from Columbia University and a master's degree in Middle East studies from
Harvard University.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions you might have.

Thank you,
