[Peace-discuss] Back to the Jewish problem on the left

Regarding Stan Marsh's commentary this morning, congratulations to AWARE for being included as part of the global conspiracy to overthrow our way of life.

It's important to note the implicit (and historically very real with real consequences) of the anti-semitism implied in Marsh's piece--that is, anti-semitism directed at the socialist/communist (read Jewish) left (although Marsh refers to liberals as well).

It's also important to examine why this piece will not be labeled as anti-semitic by the same folks who wanted to shut down UPTV--many of them invoke a related characterization of the anti-Zionist left, although being careful to not explicitly refer to only Jews as does Marsh; and even if they did, it's obviously in reference to those Jews who encourage anti-semitism in others by criticizing Israel. Rabbi Klein is explicit about this--criticizing Israel always provokes anti-semitism, intended or otherwise.

For the local Jewish establishment, anti-semitism is narrowly construed and used towards specific political ends. They react to Pike, but they wouldn't react to shows propagating Christian fundamentalist eschatology regarding Israel, apocalypse, redemption, etc.

With Pike, the goal is obfuscation, fake paranoia, and self-pity. But the deep-seated antipathy is toward the secular (or even liberation theology) left, and thus Marsh's anti-semitism will not be noted.

If I am allowed one conspiracy theory, it would be that the point of all this has been to knock Amy Goodman off the air. I'll fall back on Freud for those who ask for proof.
