The Pentagon Papers ("United States–Vietnam Relations, 1945–1967: A Study
Prepared by the Department of Defense") reveal at the end that in 1968 the Joint
Chiefs of Staff were very concerned about sending more troops to Vietnam because
they thought they would have to use them here in the U.S. to quell civil disorder.

Noam Chomsky remarks that "No one really wants to comment on that because it
reveals how effective the movement was. The people aren't supposed to know they
can be effective." --CGE
