Ah, well, yes, if embassies and consulates are considered "military bases" then yes, I can see the whole list's applying.

China includes Xianggang (Hong Kong) where the US still has a naval base of sorts.
At the Embassy in Beijing there is a Military Attache'. The Embassies and Consulates
in China are considered to be US soil.

Or China

Or Russia

I think this list is from when China meant/included Taiwan, Russia was the USSR, and the US did actually have bases in Venequela. Or maybe they're current secret installations that nobody's supposed to know about...
I couldn't find a really current listing besides this on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_military_bases
Here's a good article on the subject from Chalmers Johnson
http://www.alternet.org/story/47998/
And I still have that scary DVD from PBS about US Empire-building using military presence.

Seems like it would have been much simpler to list the countries in which America does NOT have military bases.
Like Jenifer, I wonder how we could have bases in Russia and China. And I continue to wonder how we can boycott Cuba for 50 years, call them "evil" and all that, and yet still have Guantanamo Bay there. I guess we just do whatever we want, huh?
Oh....and McCain's big economic plan is to freeze everything in the federal budget EXCEPT the military. Like we don't already spend enough on the military.
