Yes, y're right, everything that can be exported re service has also been exported. The remaining jobs are what can't be exported, e g busing dishes, teaching (what's left off-line), cleaning motel rooms, repairing cars. Oh yeah, and (of course) fixing plumbing :-)

Gee Jenifer, you are really behind the times.  Even the service industry has moved abroad to India, China,  etc.   Apart from genetically manipulated designer agriculture and environmentally and chemically unsafe, financially strapped corporations, we do not export anything but wars and covert operations these days.  We are basically a consumer society for the time being until the rest of the world takes the T-bird away.

I have been wondering lately if the US produces anything to sell abroad anymore, now that the service industry has replaced manufacturing re providing jobs. Agricultural products, I guess... at least until somebody figures out how to turn wheat and soybeans into gasoline.

Yes.

But that's hard work sometimes.  ;-)

Well, either way - borrowing the money or "printing" it - it's fiscally irresponsible and unsustainable.  That was my point.  A viable economy has to be based on ACTUAL productivity - making REAL things that the world needs - and not just on shuffling papers around to create the illusion of prosperity.
