You'd probably heard that Naomi Klein (author of "Shock Doctrine")
is speaking this Wednesday, Oct 29th, at 7:30pm,
in the Smith Hall auditorium (805 S. Mathews):
Klein will lay out her view of how Latin America became a laboratory
for neoliberal economic ideas such as those championed by Milton
Friedman and his “Chicago Boys,” starting with the Pinochet
regime in Chile. She will argue that military coups and neoliberal
ideologues in the region guided the path for the imposition of a
new economic model.
But, she'll *also* be around for several events the following day,
Thursday, October 30th:
10:00AM Thu – Interview on Focus 580 (WILL-AM call-in program)
12 noon Thu – Book signing, in Illini Union Bookstore
2:00PM Thu – Discussion of Latin American social
movements, in Illini Union room 210
