Howard Zehr public lecture:
"Restorative Justice: what it is,
why it works, and what it can mean for us"
Howard Zehr is Professor of Restorative Justice at Eastern
Mennonite University. His book, "Changing Lenses: A New Focus
for Crime and Justice", has been a foundational work in the
growing Restorative Justice movement.
Prof. Zehr was also interviewed on WILL-AM's "Focus 580"

Thu Nov 6th, 7pm, Independent Media Center (Broadway & Elm, Urbana):
Film showing of "Winter Soldier II: Iraq and Afghanistan" --
a 90-minute documentary of testimony and interviews of soldiers,
Iraqis, journalists, and others from Iraq Veterans Against the War's
event held in Washington, DC in March, 2008 (see www.ivaw.org).
This is in the runup to the *local* Winter Soldier Urbana-Champaign
event on Nov. 13th, one week later (see below). Don't miss that!
Sat Nov 8th (7:00pm) and
Sun Nov 9th (3:30pm!!), Channing-Murray Foundation, Oregon & Mathews, Urbana
"The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail" a play, with themes
including civil disobedience -- Henry David Thoreau refused
to pay the tax to feed a war he opposed -- and individuality.
Directed by UofI student Matthew DeMarco.
PLEASE NOTE that I'd posted INCORRECT TIMES in the past
(don't rely on the Channing-Murray calendar!). It really will be:
7:00pm on Sat Nov 8th (as before), and
3:30pm on Sun Nov 9th (different from before).
With luck, DeMarco may be interviewed during Carl E. & Mindy M.'s
"From Bard to Verse", WEFT-FM 90.1, from noon-1pm Saturday Nov. 8th.

They are visual and verbal artists, taking on complex problems --
globalization, exploitation of Central American resources,
"Free Trade" -- interviewing many people affected by the issues, and
creating giant murals and posters to make them clear and compelling.
They like bees. And activist ants. Their art is anti-copyrighted,
available to all. They're now on a fundraising tour, gathering support
for their current project,
