[Peace-discuss] Nazi ideology

In recent years conservative commentators and talk show hosts have
commonly voiced a strange new theme.

Believe it or not, they contend that fascism (and more specifically
Nazism) was and is a left-wing, not a right-wing, ideology.

Now this contention of course is absurd and without any basis in fact.
Only in this current era when so little about history is being taught in
our schools and colleges could such a contention be made without the
commentator being laughed off the air.

Here is the truth about what happened when the Nazi party took power in
Germany:

The top priority was to round up Communists for execution or for
imprisonment. The next priority was socialists and then the Nazis
rounded up union officials and liberals, especially liberal activists.

And later the Nazis rounded up members of other groups, such as Jews and
homosexuals.

I heard one right-wing propagandist claim that the Nazis were anti-big
business. The truth is that the Nazis were closely aligned with, and
heavily bankrolled by, big business, especially military manufacturers.

The Nazis encouraged militarism, super-nationalism, and a near-worship
of the nation state.

This ultra nationalism and militarism are key elements of the right-wing
ideology.

Progressives need to start speaking out on this. No one should assume
that graduates of our educational system won't fall for this
preposterous nonsense concerning Nazism.

People need to be told the truth.
