There can be no doubt that the societal benefit of protecting free 
speech is that those
who perceive a Fire say so regardless of who has a hissy fit about it.

There are many fires burning, and there are many who wish to set brush 
fires in the minds of the people,
and many standing by with wet blankets.

Some stratification in the society is inevitable.
Credible arguments can be made for real tangible benefits to the society 
from modest stratification.

Let them eat "Cake".  (I don't want to hear about it).
