Unfortunately "responsible withdrawal" has become a code word or phrase for
"we'll stay there as long as we want, until we in our infiniite wisdom
determine that the (insert name of invaded/occupied peoples here) can 'take
care of themselves' in our paternalistic absence."

Since the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are illegal, immoral, and patently
foolish, the only truly responsible withdrawal would be what we finally
ended up doing in Viet Nam - not letting the door hit our troops in the ass
during their rather hasty retreat.
