[Peace-discuss] Would It Kill Us to Apologize to Iran for the Coup?

Well, John, I've known some touchy Libertarians in my day, but I do agree that Wayne can take it as good as he dishes it out :-)

Also, please stop referencing those w/ Down's in yr analogies. Some children and adults w/ Down's have nearly normal IQs, and many -- regardless of IQ -- are actually pretty reasonable and responsible human beings.

Think about this: it's not those w/ mental retardation who have caused the world's problems! We need to blame the smart guys w/ no sense or heart, instead of comparing them w/ those who really do have limited intelligence... and who, btw, often have a lot of sense and heart!

Wow, I was just stating the obvious, duh -- I didn't think I'd said anything that anybody could possibly disagree with!

You'll find, Jen, if you haven't already, that talking to a libertarian is like talking to someone who speaks an entirely different language, and refuses to make even the slightest attempt to learn your language.

I would go so far as to say that libertarians are as similar, in their way, as are children/adults with Down's Syndrome.  In the case of libertarians, they're impervious to any sort of reason that is outside of their very formulaic world view.  They never concede a point, no matter how minor.  They're absolute masters at employing red herrings and other diversionary rhetorical tactics.  And they never give up.  They'll argue with you until you simply expire of exhaustion.

The one positive quality libertarians share is their thick skins.  It's almost impossible to insult a libertarian to the point where s/he will actively dislike you.  It may be simply because the libertarian doesn't realize that s/he is being insulted, though in my experiments with them I've been so blatantly insulting that I don't think that's the case.  At any rate, we "progressives" are much thinner-skinned than libertarians.
