[Peace-discuss] Criminal Nuisance Ordinance in Urbana

Last night, Monday, 12 Jan 09, Neil Parthun and I were present at a 
sparsely attended meeting of the
Urbana City Council - Committee of the Whole to voice our opposition to 
the proposed Criminal Nuisance Property Ordinance.

Neil presented several well thought out objections.  Mayor Laurel Lunt 
Prussing did not disappoint.
She made several counterstatements with typical waspishness.  Neil had 
done his homework and
fielded her snipy remarks with great skill.  Good Job, Neil.

One comment the Mayor made after I had spoken is that the  Criminal 
Nuisance Property Ordinance was
being formulated because the Mayor's Task Force on Neighborhood Safety 
had reported that the
management of apartments was a key factor in criminal behaviour.

Today I emailed the mayor's office requesting a copy of the Report of 
this Task Force.  It turns out that
there is no report from this task force.  The mayor's secretary 
indicates that there are minutes.  I have requested
that they send those to me.  Thought you all would be interested.
