Dear Jenifer:

Thank you for writing me concerning efforts to promote diplomacy in the Middle East. It is the goal and aspiration of all great nations to promote and maintain peace through non-violent and mutual discussion. 

For this reason, I stand behind President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton, and I commend them for reviving diplomacy as an integral part of United States foreign policy. I also support the efforts of our new administration to seek discussions with leaders of the Middle East to develop a more stable and prosperous region. I encourage the use of sanctions only as a means to thwart potentially dangerous or irrational behavior, as it is imperative that we maintain a commitment to promoting global peace, and we do not allow violent and discriminatory regimes to disrupt our peace-building process. 

Again, I thank you for writing to me on the important issue of Middle-Eastern peace. I look forward to doing all that I can to help the new Presidential Administration on this issue and I encourage you to write my office on future legislative issues.
