I LOVE Alan Grayson!! I am sending him $$ and hoping you will as well. A few more like Grayson and Kucinich might get us somewhere, at least domestically.

Dear Jenifer,

One year ago, Alan Grayson was one of the candidates supported by the Open Left community because he was a "Better Democrat."  Now that he's in Congress, Representative Grayson has more than lived up to that title.

Even though he is from a swing district in central Florida , Grayson has been an outspoken, aggressive Democrat.  He declared on the floor of the House that the Republican health care plan was "Don't get sick. And if you do get sick, die quickly."

When Republicans attacked him for this and prepared a resolution to condemn him, Grayson apologized--but only to the people in this country who had died because they lacked health insurance.  Then, it was Republicans who actually backed down, withdrawing their resolution of condemnation.

Republicans aren't going to stop attacking him, though. The 2010 elections are one year from today, and Representative Grayson is already a top Republican target.  To combat this, today we are joining with a nationwide "money bomb" to support Alan Grayson, and raise $500,000 for his campaign. In the spring, Grayson joined with a group of 32 other House Democrats to fight against blank-check funding of the war in Afghanistan .  In a legislative fight lasting several weeks, the group also won important concessions, including the "cash for clunkers" program that was largely responsible for the economic growth of the last quarter. Grayson was a proud part of an effort that forced the White House and the Democratic Congressional leadership to negotiate with the Progressive Caucus for the first time--a development which has strengthened the position of the Progressive Caucus on issues like health care.

Since he was sworn into office, Representative Grayson has also been a powerful voice on the House Finance Committee.  He's worked to strengthen Wall Street regulations, open the books on the Wall Street bailout, and publicly grilled financial executives who helped contribute to the economic crash of 2008.  On a committee dominated by Democrats who defer to large financial institutions, Representative Grayson has been a populist voice for transparency and meaningful reform.
