Excellent point Patsy !

I have made that connection many times in the past on the radio show ( when Brian Chesney (sp. ) was beaten and arrested ).
And on the television show when we covered the Haymarket riots, the Great Uprising of 1877, the Ludlow Massacre ( Colorado not Illinois ) of 1913, the Memorial Day massacre in Chicago in 1937, Kent State, Jackson State, etc., etc,. etc..
The list is VERY long !

And I think this point and many examples need to be made over and over again.

Thanks

David Johnson

I would like to see the discussion of how the city and state have used the police against, unemployed workers in times of econmic problems. This I think would help with unity and be pro-active, it would remind whites that this is not offercer friendly everywhere but the northend

C-U Citizens are also welcome to come on Labor's View T.V. ( Urbana Public Television channel 6 ) anytime with a weeks notice.
We tape on Thursdays from 5-6pm, and it airs that next Sunday ( 3-days later ) at 4pm.

Also the WEFT Illinois Labor Hour is also available on Saturdays ( live ) from 11am - 12 Noon.
Broadcast range about 50 miles and webcast world-wide.

I don't know if anyone from C-U Citz is interested or available, but it seems that our participation in AWARE on the air (weekly on UPTV) is another possible venue to get the word out about the community issues that concern us. After all, AWARE stands for the Anti-War, Anti-Racism Effort. I made the inquiry, at any rate. Several of you are on both the AWARE and the CUCPJ mailing lists, and involved in both organizations.

Sure, I view those topics as closely related to the issue of racism in our
community. Send us someone, & I'll try to allocate as much as 20--30 minutes to
their presentation, depending on how cogent & effective it seems.

I'm curious...Would AWARE on the Air be an appropriate forum for members of
CU Citizens for Peace and Justice to discuss community issues of criminal
'justice' and the police? E.g., the recent killing of Kiwane Carrington,
Tasers, Citizen Police Review Boards, etc.? Or would that be muddying the
            AWARE waters?

If you're willing to participate in the program, contact Karen Medina (chair
of the working group) or Ron Szoke. If there are too few people to produce a
new program, UPTV will repeat last week's program. (I saw a recording of
            that, and it's particularly good.)
