Dear Friends,

Over the next two weeks, Champaign County Health Care Consumers (CCHCC) is
trying to reach over 4,000 of our supporters to ask them to take action on
national health reform -- in particular, to advocate for the strongest
possible regulation of private insurance, and important consumer
protections, as part of national health reform.

ADVOCATING FOR INSURANCE REGULATION AND CONSUMER PROTECTIONS One key
component to national health reform must be strong regulation of private
insurance companies, and consumer protections. Private health insurance
companies must be regulated to prohibit them from their current practices
of:
*    discriminating based on gender;
*    denying coverage for pre-existing conditions;
*    dropping or rescinding coverage for sick consumers;
*    and applying annual or lifetime benefit limits.

Private health insurance companies must be regulated so that:
*    there are standards for what benefits must be provided;
*    everyone is guaranteed coverage;
*     and coverage is renewable.

Consumer protections are needed to prevent deceptive marketing practices,
and to ensure fair grievance and appeals procedures, as well as transparency
in pricing, coverage, and profits.

We must demand that Congress include these much needed regulations and
protections in the final legislation!

CCHCC's PHONATHON
This week and next week, CCHCC will be conducting our annual Phonathon,
where we call our supporters and ask them to take action on an important
issue, and also ask them to make a contribution to support CCHCC's
grassroots community organizing work. Over the next two weeks, we will be
calling our supporters and activists, and asking them to add their names to
letters we are sending to our Senators and Representative calling for these
regulations and consumer protections. We hope you will agree to have your
name added to CCHCC's letters, and also make a contribution to CCHCC so we
can carry on this important work to reach as many people as possible.

SEVERAL WAYS TO TAKE ACTION

** Save us a phone call - E-mail us to add your name to the letter ** You
can save us a phone call by responding to this e-mail message and letting us
know if you would like your name added to the letter (tell us exactly how
you want your name to appear) and if you are willing to make a contribution
to CCHCC for this effort.

** How to make a contribution **
You can make a contribution one of two ways:

1. Respond to this e-mail by letting us know how much you would like to
contribute (you would be "pledging" an amount), and then we will send you a
letter in the mail with an envelope where you can enclose your contribution;
or

2. You can go directly to CCHCC's contribution webpage, and use your credit
card or pay pal account to make a contribution:

**Talk to us!**
You can also always talk to us when we call you during the Phonathon
evenings!  Volunteers will be staffing the phones and making the calls, and
you can let us know to add your name to our letters advocating for strong
insurance regulations and consumer protections, and you can also pledge to
make a contribution of a certain amount, and we will mail you a letter with
a return envelope for making the contribution.

VOLUNTEER FOR CCHCC'S PHONATHON!
You can also take action by helping us to organize thousands of Champaign
County residents to take a stand on these health insurance regulations and
consumer protections, by participating in our annual Phonathon.

Our Phonathon takes place on the following evenings, from 5:30 p.m.
to 8:30 p.m.:
- Monday 9/21
- Tuesday 9/22
- Thursday 9/24
- Tuesday 9/29
- Wednesday 9/30
- Thursday 10/1

Phonathon takes place at the CCHCC Office - 44 East Main Street, Suite 208
in downtown Champaign.

We provide training and free food each evening!

Please join us for one (or more!) evening. RSVP by replying to this e-mail,
or calling (217) 352-6533 or going online:
