In the next several weeks, Congress is expected to be asked to approve $33 billion more for war in Afghanistan, chiefly to pay for the current military escalation and the U.S. military's planned offensive this summer in the Afghan city of Kandahar.  



One of the pillars that sustains the war is the false story endlessly promoted in the U.S. media that what the U.S military is doing in Afghanistan is in the interest of the Afghan people. The continued deaths of Afghan civilians in U.S. Special Forces night raids, in shootings at U.S. military checkpoints, by U.S. military convoys, and in U.S. airstrikes doesn't fit into this story, so there is little attention to these stories in the U.S. media.  



But there are exceptions. This week, the New York Times reported that the U.S. military lied when it denied responsibility for the deaths of three Afghan women in a Special Forces night raid in February. Moreover, the U.S. says it is now investigating the conclusion by Afghan investigators that U.S. Special Forces tampered with evidence at the scene in an attempt to cover up the crime. [1]  



But even after these damning revelations, there is no reported effort by the U.S. government to do anything to stop U.S. Special Forces from breaking into Afghans' houses in the middle of the night and killing civilians.
