If Mom says you can have ice cream when you eat your spinach and you
don't eat your spinach, you didn't want ice cream very badly. If U.S.
and British officials make clear that the endgame in Afghanistan is a
negotiated political settlement with the Afghan Taliban and you don't
support negotiations with the Taliban, you didn't want to end the war
very badly.
