This week, dozens of veterans from around the country – including me – will
descend on Capitol Hill, meeting with Congressmen and Senators to push
Congress to follow President Obama’s lead and close the prison at Guantanamo
Bay, that has become a blight on America’s reputation and has endangered our
troops and security.  We need your help!

Every dollar helps, and we’re pinching every penny to make this trip as
inexpensive as possible.  But, your money will go a long way to helping pay
for a veteran’s flight to DC, for his or her accommodations at a hotel, and
a relatively small amount to buy meals.

Our veterans will be backed up by thousands of veterans, and you, who have
all signed our petitions and letters calling for the facility to be closed.
Every day the prison remains open is another day that al Qaeda has an
effective recruiting tool, and another day we’re creating more enemies who
will target our troops and America.

It’s far past time that we transfer detainees to one of our prisons that can
handle them, and have many of them face trial and permanent, legal
imprisonment (if they are not sentenced to death).  We can both follow the
rule of law and international human rights, while also being tough on
terrorists.  The two are not mutually exclusive.
