>but nevertheless China IS a much more brutal and repressive government

I disagree and believe that this vision of China is a product of the Western demonization of competitors and those that they disagree with.

With respect to the role and brutal repressiveness of the US government in conjunction with medical personnel, one can go way back in US history before there was a CIA and take note of US Army giving Native Americans Typhus ridden blankets and then watched them die without offering any medical help, the Tuskegee experiment in which the government funded medical researchers to give poor illiterate black men Syphilis without their knowledge and consent without giving them any sort of medical treatment so they could see the effects of untreated Syphilis, wherein many suffered died a horrible death from the disease, the testing at government expense of drugs on civilian prisoners - often without their knowledge or consent, or the defining of rebels and those who actively opposed the established ways as mentally ill so as to confine them to asylums where they were ill treated and abused (under the supervision of medical personnel) and where they were given lobotomies, shock treatments, and drugs to turn them into zombies. Of course, the actual number of deaths resulting from Government instigated, invoked, and supported actions by medical personnel over the course of Amerikan history is greatly under reported - if reported at all.

Currently, leaving aside instances connected with the military or the CIA, one only has to note the number of deaths caused by law enforcement where medical examiners, who are medical personnel, engage in justifying, rationalizing, and explaining the deaths as not being sue to the actions of Law enforcement personnel and their procedures and weapons but due to some natural medical cause where the police actions are only said to be minor contributory factors. Or of medical personnel who define and describe injuries suffered by prisoners of suspects at the hands of law enforcement as being something which is vague and ambiguous that could be caused by a multitude of other factors or as an injury that is other than one caused by police or prison personnel by not considering any other medically possible descriptions of the self-same injury.

As for brutality and repression, I have to wonder how many persons China has in prison as compared to how many the US is warehousing - both historically and currently, how many persons have been executed in each country, and how prison conditions compare historically and currently when standardized for the common standards of living in the respective country. Why is it that both the Soviet Union and China tended to sentence dissidents to work camps, banishment to communities in the hinterlands, to centers for re-education and indoctrination, and the like rather than to capital punishment if there repression is so brutal; whereas, the US, has utilized capital punishment to a much greater degree for all kinds of criminal acts as well as for political acts, which often get defined as treason or threats to national security. We have no figures on how many dissidents have been placed officially or unofficially on secret assassination lists or actually been assassinated or had attempts made on taking their lives. One has to wonder about the police actions with respect to the Black Panthers where individuals were set up and killed by police or the dissident group in Philly that were killed by police who in the process destroyed a whole city block, or the government sanctioned and unsanctioned physical attacks on black dissidents in both the north and south prior to and during the Civil rights period by law enforcement or white citizens councils supported by their local governments. How about all the unprevented and unpunished beatings, killings, and lynching of troublemaking members of minority groups (Native Americans, Spanish-speaking Americans, Afro-Americans, Asian-Americans, etc.) by US White Anglo citizenry without any intervention by Government officials that would protect those dissidents or to catch and punish the perpetrators of such beatings, killing and lynching.

I do not know about you; but I consider such events illustrative examples of US brutality and repression by citizenry supported and condoned by government and by agents of the US Government at all levels which has existed and been operative throughout US history. I do not see it as being any less than what one finds in any other country. IO really think that one needs to ask the victims of US Government brutality and repression if they see or feel or experienced it to be any less than that which they have read about or heard about, or believe to be happening in other countries.

Laurie,

I mainly posted this because I was curious if Wayne Johnson ( who is currently in China ) would receive it ( due to China's internet censorship ) and / or if he had any comments about this.

I am well aware of the role of American medical and psychiatric professionals working with the U.S. government and the CIA.
It is similar, but nevertheless China IS a much more brutal and repressive government.

I do see our own government however moving increasingly toward the more repressive model of China and Israel.

I am sorry but I see little difference between that which is happening in China and that which has and is happening in the US were medical personnel and psychologist (and possibly psychiatric workers) have joined the ranks of the military and the CIA as consultants and practitioners and are engaged in similar practices. What makes the Chinese situation different? Certainly there is no claim being made that all Western doctors abide by the oath and do not engage in violations of their oath or a claim that all Chinese doctors engage in the described activities.

I think that this can be viewed as a form of ideological propaganda on behalf of Falun Gong supporters in an attempt to gain Western support for their cause and not a truly objective or scientific comparative study of such practices across nations against populations that the establishment sees as dangerous agents of non-establishment belief systems, political philosophies, and religions.

        An Attack on Conscience
        Through Mind Destroying Drugs

In the free world, the sworn and solemn oath taken by medical doctors is "to do no harm." Conversely in China, doctors often collaborate with authorities to help destroy the health and sanity of people who do not "toe the Party line." By use of insidious and purposeful administering of mind-alternating drugs, China allows doctors to do intentional harm to the minds of those viewed to be in opposition to its requirements

In a speech to the United Nations Human Rights Council on March 15, 2010, Dr. Shizhong Chen told the Council that, "Volumes and volumes of reports from the Council's own Special Rapporteurs have documented thousands of cases of severe torture and killing of Falun Gong practitioners by the Chinese authorities." He described documentation of how, when physical torture failed to break the will of Falun Gong practitioners, the Chinese authorities turned to psychiatric abuse. He concluded by appealing "to international society to speak up against China's mind-killing medication. To remain silent to such killing of the mind is a suicide of our collective conscience and humanity." To read his entire speech, please click here.

The UN Committee, formed to review reports of Torture in China, stated, "The Committee also notes with concern that this provision has been misused to detain some people in psychiatric hospitals for reasons other than medical."

Chinese authorities have taken an untold number of perfectly rational and sane Falun Gong practitioners to mental hospitals to be "transformed."

The U.N. Special Rapporteur, Professor Manfred Nowak, in his China Country Visit Report stated: "Detainees also stated that Falun Gong practitioners who had not renounced their beliefs after six months in detention were placed in the Intensive Training section until they were 'reformed'. Falun Gong practitioners formerly detained at this facility refer to this section as the 'Intensive Torture Section.'"

Statistics indicate that cases of "psychiatric treatment" have spread to 23 out of 33 provinces under the direct leadership of the central government in China. At least 100 psychiatric facilities have been employed in the persecution. Clearly, the abuse of psychiatric drugs on Falun Gong practitioners has been a well-planned, systematically carried out, top-down policy.

Since the objective of supposed psychiatric treatment is not for the "patient's" well-being, the "psychiatric treatment" may well take place in mental hospitals, forced labor camps, or any detention facility. The following accounts remind us of what is really being done to Falun Gong practitioners behind the scenes of China's expanding economy.
