                                Dear Friend,

Right now, the FBI can stop a terror suspect from boarding a plane, but it has no authority to stop terror suspects from buying guns and explosives.

This morning I'm testifying before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on the need to close the Terror Gap in our nation's gun laws -- a position strongly supported by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a bi-partisan coalition of 500 mayors from around the country.

Six months ago today, Major Nidal Hasan shot and killed 13 people at Fort Hood in Texas. Even though Hasan was under investigation for links to al Qaeda, he was able to pass a background check and purchase a gun -- and the FBI was never notified.

The Fort Hood shooting proved that this flaw in our nation's laws -- known as the Terror Gap -- is a clear danger to our armed forces, our law enforcement officials, and our communities.

That's why I'm urging Congress to take immediate action -- and you can help.

Join me in asking Congress to stop terrorists from getting guns and explosives.

The attempt to detonate a car bomb in Times Square four days ago is another sober reminder that terrorists continue to threaten our country. We need to give law enforcement the tools they need to keep guns and explosives out of the hands of terrorists.

By signing our petition, you can help us tell Congress to close the Terror Gap and help keep our country safe.

The situation is clear, and there's no excuse for inaction.

Tell Congress it's time to get serious about stopping terrorism. It's time to stop terrorists from getting guns and explosives -- and that starts with fixing the Terror Gap:

The Terror Gap has already cost too many American lives, and every day, it continues to pose a deadly serious threatThank you,

                                Mayor Michael Bloomberg
