I don't think Benn Michaels dismisses racism, blithely or any other way.  He
wants to know how it works in contemporary political discussion.

While of course it exists, in functions in liberal imaginings to turn attention
away from certain other arguments.

On your specific example, the cop who killed Carrington was involved in the
killing of another unarmed citizen who I think was white.  I recall writing
about the case at the time.
