Actually there is some evidence that Comma Indexes may be a sensitive 
early warning of
impending economic decline and doom.

Economist Robert J. Samuelson presciently observed a drop in comma 
indexes way back in July 2007.

Samuelson warned us all, "/...the comma's sad fate is, I think, a 
metaphor for something larger.../"
