A most interesting take on this; but I doubt very much that most of the middle class air travelers will or do make this sort of connection or care about the connection.  I even doubt if most of the flying populous puts civil liberties over security, which is why the masses are usually content to allow dictators to establish totalitarian rule whose highlights are security and predictability as long as you conform and go along with the program.
