On Tuesday (10/12), Evelyne Accad, Professor Emerita in French and Comparative
Literature will be giving a presentation "Women's Survival Narratives in the
Camps of Sabra and Chatila." The talk will be at noon in Rm 101, International
Studies Building, at the corner of Fifth and Chalmers.
On a Fulbright Fellowship in Lebanon in 2001, Accad concentrated on the effects
of war on women’s lives and on health issues. She interviewed women in the
refuge camps of Sabra and Shatila, "where the memories of the massacres – rapes
and dismemberment of women – are still very acute, and fear is very much
present."
