More than 800 Local 73 building service and food service workers
agreed to a tentative agreement with the University of Illinois and
will not strike Monday as planned.

The agreement comes nine months after negotiations began and just
hours before a strike was scheduled to begin at 12:01 a.m. Monday,
April 18.

Negotiations wrapped up Saturday afternoon after the two sides reached
tentative agreement on a two year contract. The decision to accept or
reject the agreement was left to the 800 members in the bargaining
unit, who voted in a secret ballot Saturday afternoon and at two
meetings Sunday. After the ballots were counted, a majority of voters
accepted the proposed agreement.
