some things are definitely blocked.

YouTube is blocked in favour of local video services YouKu,"56", TuDou, etc.

Google is not exactly blocked but it is messed with. I met the China COO for Google at
a meeting about a month ago and he said that Google's business is Ad Sales and that is
not interfered with. Most Chinese prefer the Chinese search engine "BaiDu".

Some foreign origin free-of-charge blogs are blocked like Blogger and Wordpress, etc.

I am not aware of any blocked news services.

Some one in the office pointed out that some prurient key words like "pussy" were blocked for awhile on some search engines but that is no longer the case.

There are a myriad of ways to get around the blocking of sites and most 'net savvy Chinese know how to circumvent the blocks.

The usual ways are via proxy sites and use of VPN (virtual private networks).

I was hoping you would confirm rather this was true or not Wayne.

Have you experienced any internet blocking in China ?

Do you as a foreigner have the same internet service as most Chinese people ?

Egypt's most prominent reform advocate called on Sunday for President Hosni Mubarak to resign after the powerful military stepped up its presence across the anarchic capital, closing roads with tanks and sending F-16 fighter jets streaking over downtown. The army's show of force appeared aimed at quelling looting, armed robbery and arson that broke out alongside pro-democracy protests and have turned the ... Full Story »

Reuters via Yahoo! News - 5 hours ago
Egypt's decision on Sunday to close the offices of Al Jazeera illustrates the leading role the Arabic broadcaster has taken in reporting unprecedented popular revolts against Arab rulers. Egypt has often harassed the Qatar-based channel since it began in 1996, setting off a revolution in Arab media in the face of state-controlled information, but it had never before tried to shut down its operations ... Evidently the Chinese regime has blocked internet searches which have "Egypt" in the contents.
