By Glenn Greenwald, UK Guardian (Op-Ed). June 20, 2012
If one asks current or former WikiLeaks associates what their greatest fear is, almost none cites prosecution by their own country. Most trust their own nation’s justice system to recognize that they have committed no crime. The primary fear is being turned over to the US. “[Bradley Manning] has participated in Pride marches and campaigned against the ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’ restrictions on gay military personnel… Manning is also a humanist and a man with a conscience. When he discovered human rights violations by the US armed forces and duplicity by the US government, he was shocked and distressed… believing it was betraying the US ideals of democracy and human rights.“

-Human rights activist Peter Tatchell

Bradley Manning, military resistance, and the left
This week, Manhattan’s Brecht Forum hosted another Manning Monday event, the third in a four-part series examining Bradley Manning’s case and its nuances and implications. The first event, “Being Bradley Manning,” debunked myths about the Army private and reviewed his most recent legal proceedings. In the second, “Bradley Manning, Wikileaks & Some Dangerous Data,” Birgitta Jónsdóttir, Alfredo Lopez & Trevor Timm discussed government transparency in the Internet age. Next Monday, June 25, the series’ will conclude with “Manning, Motions, and Media,” will feature the Support Network’s Emma Cape, CCR lawyer Shayana Kadidal, The Nation’s Greg Mitchell & CMJ’s Betty Yu.
