Sorry, Stuart, totally forgot about this. Let us know when the next mtg is, and I'll get it onto my calendar!

(sorry if you get several copies of this - somehow it's not going
out to the peace/occupy mailing lists, so I'm sending it directly
too.)
OK - let's have a first[*] July 4th sign-making after Sunday's AWARE
meeting. If possible (it probably will be) we can stay in McKinley
Foundation, either in the common area or in Dean Clark room --
Sunday, June 24th, starting by 6:30pm
(or earlier - AWARE meeting usually finishes by 6pm)
McKinley Foundation building, 5th and Daniel, Champaign
free parking in structure across 5th St, probably free
on-street too
I'll bring some sign-making stuff - at least markers,
posterboard, tape, foam core -
and Rohn mentions he'll bring some art supplies as well.
McKinley will likely be locked. We'll have signs posted on the south
and east doorknobs with a phone number (369 3485)-
call it when you're outside
and we'll let you in.
(Or, if you have no cell phone, try to send e-mail saying about when
you expect to be there and we can keep an eye out for you.
In that case please come to the south (Daniel St) door. Or come to
the Presby Hall glass doors, in the courtyard just north of the main
building, and see if they'll let you in.)
We'll probably talk some about sign ideas during the AWARE meeting,
too.
[*] We'll surely have at least one more signmaking after Sunday, so
if you're interested but can't come please let us know.

Some
more ideas - sorry for omitting these -
Young people marching, presenting their own thoughts
on peace - and war - in signs or banners or whatever -
Sandra's suggestion.
(I think this would be a really valuable thing to do - and
difficult - both for the same reason. What young people could
we find who might take part? And, the fact that we are
currently mostly a bunch of gray haired fuddy-duddies (sorry
all) is an indictment of our recruitment of the next
generation.)
One piece of good news - Jenifer C's grandson is around, and
may have something to say about war and peace...
The inheritance of the wars we make today is a burden on
tomorrow's unborn children.
When we in the US make war on distant countries, the
terrible effects on their people - especially their youth -
are easy for us to ignore.

July 4th is coming soon. We have a bunch of ideas, not mutually
exclusive, but we need to work on at least some of them. Who
has time? When would be good?
Some possible times -
- Saturday afternoon, after Occupy demonstration (maybe 4:30
or 5)
- Sunday afternoon, after AWARE (maybe 6:30)
- Monday, after Occupy GA (maybe around 9pm)
Summary of ideas raised so far - at least in a quick scan of
recent e-mail - if yours is not here, or you have another,
please remind us!
Veterans marching solemnly, followed for contrast by
tie-dyed/face-painted children playing together, with
flowers. Sign: "Keep our children free from war"
Sign: "How can the world's youth celebrate with us when we
keep dropping bombs on them?"
perhaps with
Recognizing groups of people, including young people,
working for peace despite adversity, including the Afghan
Youth Peace Volunteers, or groups of Israeli and Palestinian
youth. Not sure how best to show them - they're not
household names - but very important ideas. What can we
show/say?

A nice picture, of young people in Afghanistan carrying a
banner: "The People of Afghanistan Say No To War": http://ourjourneytosmile.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/dreams-and-dignity.jpg
Blood and gore and stench and horror of war. Caricatured
Statue of Liberty with lurid dollar sign mask, scythe,
"Why?". etc. See Wayne's note of 6/17, 5:24PM.
Cradle with baby doll, with (a frame holding) a mobile
floating over the baby. Mobile pieces would be words -
things that threaten the child's future - WAR, POVERTY,
HUNGER... Associated signs, e.g. "(number) of the world's
children died of malnutrition in 2010".
Vietnam-war-memorial-style "wall" of Illinois young people
