Evidently, the U.S. Border Patrol / Homeland Security, could end up
controlling our national parks. -karen medina]

What’s the issue

A bill, the National Security and Federal Lands Protect Act (H.R.
1505), is moving toward a vote soon. This bill would give the U.S.
Border Patrol control over national parks, national forests and
wildlife refuges within 100 miles of the Canadian and Mexican borders.
It would threaten 36 critical environmental laws. The bill also could
limit your access to beautiful wild places.

This bill is not just about protecting the border — it is the latest
in a series of bills aimed at giving away our great outdoors to those
who would exploit it for profit. Don’t be fooled — tell Congress to
stop this bill today.

Why is this important?

The bill threatens designated wilderness and public lands in 17 states
that cover more than 49 million acres. It threatens iconic places,
like California’s Joshua Tree National Park. In some border states,
like Maine, it would give the Border Patrol control over almost all
public lands.

Even the Department of Homeland Security, which manages the Border
Patrol, opposes this misguided and dangerous legislation.

You can help

You can help stop the “Border Patrol Takeover” bill from threatening
our precious wildlands. Tell Congress to stop this bill today.
