A Republican correspondent writes,

"The decision to find a replacement for Tim Johnson is due this
Saturday May 19th when 14 state GOP chairpeople get together & vote.
The inside line that I'm hearing is Erika Harold is the odds on
favorite for several reasons. She was the most prepared candidate at
the public forums. She is a young African-American woman which pretty
much overshadows David Gill's entire political base. In a recent radio
interview, Habeeb Habeeb discounted Kathy Wassink as a viable choice.
While both men have established connections within the 13th
Congressional District, I think Erika will win because in this
election cycle there is a strong anti-incumbent theme. Note the recent
upset victories by Deb Fischer in Nebraska & Richard Mourdock in
Indiana."

Wassink is smart and good on her feet, but Harold is the most
corporate conservative of the four potential candidates - and she'd be
the hardest for the Democrats to beat.

Given that Landslide David Gill will support Obama's mendacious
'withdrawal' from Afghanistan and his criminal drone war, that means
that Congressman Johnson's consistent votes against war in the Mideast
- and his rather lonely challenge to Obama's wars, from Libya to
Pakistan - will come to an end in this CD, no matter who wins.

Policy - in this case murder - is once again insulated from politics,
in an election between a feckless Democrat & a neocon Republican. Tim
Johnson was a rare and brief exception.
