Chicago, IL - Sunday, May 20th, Afghanistan and Iraq veterans, with
the group Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW), will host a press
conference just hours before they lead the Coalition Against NATO/G8
Poverty and War Agenda (CANG8) march to McCormick Place, where they
will return their medals to NATO's generals. Scott Olsen, Iraq veteran
who sustained a severe head injury at police hands at Occupy Oakland,
will speak out at the press conference about why he will march on NATO
with fellow veterans and return his war medals. The morning press
conference will be the first gathering of dozens of veterans who have
travelled from across the country to Chicago to don their uniforms and
march in military formation against NATO's wars and will launch a day
of veteran protests against NATO.

IVAW’s call-to-action states, “We were awarded these medals for
serving in the Global War on Terror, a war based on lies and failed
policies.”Veterans say they will mobilize to “demand that NATO
immediately end the occupation of Afghanistan and related economic and
social injustices, bring US war dollars home to fund our communities,
and acknowledge the rights and humanity of all who are affected by
these wars.”

"We've been preparing for this moment for a long time," says Aaron
Hughes, Iraq Veteran and IVAW member. "Returning my Global War on
Terror medals will be a profound experience. This Sunday, I will be
making history with my veteran brothers and sisters."
