Dear Friends,

Today, Champaign County Health Care Consumers (CCHCC) publicly released
the results of its candidate survey of candidates running for U.S. House of
Representatives, State Senate and State Representatives in the
Champaign-Urbana and Rantoul-Danville districts. CCHCC hopes this Health
Care Voter Guide will provide local voters concerned about health care with
useful information on the candidates' positions on relevant health care,
social, and economic issues. The candidates were asked questions regarding
their opinions and positions on the national health reform law (also known
as the Affordable Care Act or ACA), Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security,
the Citizens United ruling, the proposed Buffet Rule and tax rates, and
much more.

The Health Care Voter Guides are available for download at:

We are working with our community to be knowledgeable voters when you get
to the ballot box, so if you value these programs that provide health and
financial security to millions of individuals and families you can cast
votes that protect these programs.

The Health Care Voter Guides are part of CCHCC's massive voter
registration and voter education campaign focusing primarily on health care
issues. CCHCC's Executive Director, Claudia Lennhoff, said, "Health care is
a central issue in this election. The future of Medicare, Medicaid, and the
ACA (the health reform law) is what is at stake in this election, along
with Social Security and the retirement age. Almost every single American
will be affected by the outcome of this election. Young people, especially,
have very high stakes in this election -- they stand to gain or lose
affordable health insurance, and their ability to have Medicare coverage
when they retire, and even the age at which they will retire is at stake."

Ms. Lennhoff also noted that this November's elections will decide whether
health reform continues or is repealed. "The health reform law protects
consumers from unfair insurance industry practices (such as denying
coverage for pre-existing conditions, dropping coverage, and having
lifetime caps), will expand access to quality, affordable health insurance
to millions of Americans, and protects Medicare. Consumers have received
and are on the verge of gaining more significant protections from an
insurance industry that has previously been allowed to put profits before
service and bonuses before our health care," Lennhoff said. To help
consumers understand the current benefits and protections provided by the
health reform law -- benefits and protections that would be repealed if the
law is repealed, CCHCC also produced the "Facts About the Health Reform
Law" handout, also available for download on the website above.

Lennhoff said that the fact that health care has become such a hot
political issue has contributed to the misinformation and lies about health
care and candidates' positions that are part of the campaign process.
Voters need to work hard to get accurate information and to understand what
the candidates' positions are.

"Some candidates are pledging that if elected, they will repeal health
reform, as well as cut Medicaid, dismantle Medicare by turning it into a
voucher program, and cut Social Security and Veterans' benefit. Voters
really need to know where candidates stand on these issues, and our Health
Care Voter Guides are designed to provide voters with that kind of
information," Lennhoff said.

CCHCC is working with community members to be knowledgeable voters when
they get to the ballot box, so if they value these programs that provide
health and financial security to millions of individuals and families they
can cast votes that protect these programs.
