Just an email to check-in and remind you that the deadline for 4th Annual
Feminist Film Festival submissions is April 15th! Please send your films
for consideration into the festival. More details below:****

*Call for Films | 4th Annual Feminist Film Festival*

4th Annual Feminist Film Festival is hosted by the Women’s Resources
Center/Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relations. This Annual
Feminist Film Festival welcomes films from undergraduate, graduate, and
professional students at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
People underrepresented in the media field are especially encouraged to
submit a film to the festival. The Annual Feminist Film Festival is a
grassroots event that utilizes art and alternative media to bring social
issues into the fore. The goal of the festival is to showcase independent
film spanning documentary, narrative, and experimental genres in order to
explore perspectives often missing from mainstream media and culture. Now
in its 4th year, the festival strives to serve as a space for
underrepresented artists and filmmakers—particularly women and people of
color—to raise consciousness concerning issues related to gender, race,
class, sexuality, and other dimensions of social inequality, as well as,
the deconstruction of normalized categories of being. The University of
Illinois Annual Feminist Film Festival is organized and hosted by the
campus Women’s Resources Center, in collaboration with a variety of campus
units and departments. Students, faculty, and staff at the University of
Illinois are encouraged to get involved. For more information, contact the

*Submission Requirements:*

Submissions must come from undergraduate and graduate/professional students
at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Short film submissions
should be between 5 minutes and 15 minutes in length. No films over 15
minutes will be accepted into the festival. Films submitted to the festival
must meet two of the following criteria: Films created with a focus on
gender and/or social justice issues; Films that bring focus to local and/or
global issues; Films created by people underrepresented in the media field
(women, people of color, queer/transgender, persons with disabilities,
etc.). ****

*Important Dates/Deadlines: Submission Deadline: Friday, April 15th, 2013
by 5pm at the Women’s Resources Center*

** **

Electronic submissions are preferred (upload and send the link) to
rstorm2 at illinois.edu, but DVDs and flash drive submissions will be accepted
in person at the Women's Resources Center (703 S. Wright St. 2nd Fl.
Champaign, IL 61820)****

*Festival Screening:* Thursday, May 2nd, 2013 at 7pm at the Art Theater in
Downtown Champaign****

** **

Films can examine any number of issues within feminist discourse including:*
***

** **

body image/self-esteem****

violence against women****

combating/resisting sexism, racism, ableism, classism, etc.****

media critiques ****

gender fluidity****

women in leadership****

feminist superheros, comics, etc.****

performance art on film****

subverting gender, binaries, or roles****
