Subject: Tell Members of Congress to Protect Access to Lifesaving Medicines

*Dear all, *

*MSF USA has launched an action alert on the TPP. Please share broadly *

*Tell Members of Congress to Protect Access to Lifesaving Medicines*

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) relies on affordable
quality generic medicines to treat tuberculosis, malaria, HIV/AIDS, and
many more infections for patients in developing countries.

*But right now the U.S. government is advocating for trade terms with ten
Pacific Rim nations that could restrict production of and access to generic
medicines, making life-saving medicine unaffordable for millions.*

The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations are being conducted in
secret, but leaked copies of some chapters show that the US proposals would
roll back internationally-held public health safeguards and impose rules to
keep medicine prices high and out of reach of millions in the Asia-Pacific
region. Even more alarming is the fact that the TPP is being billed as a
template for future trade agreements across the globe.

*Too many people already suffer and die because the medicines they need are
too expensive or do not exist.* We cannot stand by as this proposed
agreement threatens to restrict access even further.

*Calling your members of Congress takes just a minute or two, and it’s one
of the most effective ways to get their attention. Congress needs to know
that if the USTR proposals for this agreement are included in the final
deal, this will have a real cost in human lives – a cost that their
constituents think is far too high.*
