Champaign, IL-- Local residents and MoveOn.org <http://moveon.org/> members
outraged by President Obama’s proposal to cut Social Security and veterans'
benefits will be gathering Thursday at Rep. Rodney Davis' office in
Champaign to protest and to deliver a petition calling for Congress to cut
the bloated Pentagon budget and leave Social Security and veterans'
benefits alone. The petition has been signed by 37,000 people, including
more than a thousand in Illinois.

 Urbana resident and MoveOn member Robert Naiman, Policy Director of Just
Foreign Policy, said, “Millions of seniors, veterans, and people with
disabilities depend for their basic quality of life on these benefits they
have paid for and earned through their taxes and service. Congress should
cut the bloated Pentagon budget, not Social Security and veterans’
benefits. We could end the war in Afghanistan, cut the $1.5 trillion Joint
Strike Fighter Program, and cut Pentagon contracting. Cutting any one of
these things would easily save the government far more money than cutting
Social Security and veterans' benefits.”



This* *event will be one of 88 MoveOn petition deliveries Thursday against
cutting Social Security and veterans' benefits at Congressional offices
around the country.* *MoveOn members will also be delivering "cut the
Pentagon, not Social Security" petitions at the Chicago and Carbondale
offices of Senator Durbin and at the Chicago office of Senator Kirk.
