[Peace-discuss] [Peace] report back from the AWARE demonstration yesterday afternoon

People closely affected by war -- for instance, the families of those sent
into war zones -- may well be suffering from trauma, even if they
can't/won't articulate that trauma. "My son is in the Army, so I can't be
anti-war" sounds like the sort of statement one makes from a place of
trauma -- not a political statement but a statement of a dilemma. Whatever
the response in the moment, shouldn't it be sympathetic? // The evil-ness
of the pro-war propaganda lies partly in convincing the victims of trauma
that peace activists are the source of their suffering -- hence, the
resonance of the "support the troops" slogan from the 1990's and also the
occasional explosion of profanity and hatred at the mere sight of the peace
message.
