[Peace-discuss] Boycott/Divestment/Sanctions: UC Irvine students seek our letter of support

BDS news: the UC Irvine student government unanimously passed a 
resolution 
<http://www.asuci.uci.edu/legislative/legislations/print.php?cnum=R48-15&gov_branch=ASUCI> 
calling on the University of California system and UC Irvine Foundation 
to divest from a list of companies, from Caterpillar to cement 
manufacturers to Raytheon, whose business supports the occupation of 
Palestine.

Now they're trying to press their University to pay attention to their 
demands, and are looking for support from elsewhere.

Their main public presence seems to be through their facebook page,

They have an on-line petition 
<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?fromEmail=true&formkey=dDgtaHRUY3ZSdFV2TUptZFdmOVJIeGc6MQ>, 
though it's written as from "the undersigned UC Irvine students, 
faculty, and alumni", so we wouldn't simply sign onto that.  Perhaps we 
can compose our own letter as concerned citizens.

At any rate, maybe AWARE can talk about this at our next meeting. And if 
anyone feels moved to write to them individually I'm sure they would 
welcome that, too!

My name is Sabreen and I am a current Undergraduate student at the 
University of California, Irvine. On November 13,2012 UC Irvine was the 
first UC to pass a student resolution asking for the university to 
divest from companies that are profiting from the occupation of 
Palestine. This has been a historical move, and we are currently trying 
to move forward by gaining endorsements and letters of support, in an 
effort to pressure the University.
