[Peace-discuss] [OccupyCU] Save books, because you can't save kids from Obama?

Education of the children is ultimately the responsibility of the
individual families not
the community nor a responsibility of the state. Individual families
can still opt to align themselves with
state-run (so-called "public" schools) or to find other ways to
supplement or extend
or take over the education of their children.

One purpose of state-run schools (perhaps the main purpose to some)
is to indoctrinate the children with the line of crap that will
enable them to become Obedient Workers (as Carlin observed).

There are lots of people who don't believe in
freedom of speech and expression, let alone freedom of thought.
One should not be surprised to find book burners in a place
like Urbana-Champaign that for all its talk about being
the Ephesus of the Midwest, is actually under
constant threat of being dominated by
a motley sort of narrow fascistic folk who
pride and parade themselves as liberals.

I hate the wasteful destruction of books. I still
hate to see a good Sears and Roebuck catalog
going to waste, tossed in the trash, shiny pages and all.

It costs real money to maintain libraries and they are frequently
damaged and destroyed and the books along with them.
The U of I has one of the greatest libraries in the world and
although access to the "stacks" is limited to those with some
privileges, anyone can go into the other multiple branch libraries
and use them.

The internet offers access to a great many diverse literary works
and there is actually relatively little culling for correctness,
political or
fundamental. Access is available to virtually everyone willing to make
some effort.
