Sean O'Torain,

Originally from Derry Northern Ireland.
He has lived in Chicago since the late 1990's.
He was in Belfast on Bloody Sunday in the early 1970's, he was also for many years an Organizer for the Socialist Party of Ireland.
In the early 2000's in Chicago he organized Working class people in Whitting Indiana, an area of former Steel Mills and other Industrial Manafacturing in the Chicago metro area, to oppose a 1000 % property tax increase that the City Council voted in because the Steel Mills and B.P. Petroleum Refinery had their Accountants prepare financial statements that alleged they were almost bankrupt and could no longer pay their property taxes. They of course had help from corporate bought and paid for politicians of BOTH the dems and the repubs.
They resisted with a " Can't Pay, Won't Pay " slogan and they went to every City Council and County Board meeting and advocated and harrassed / exposed the corrupt politicians.
They eventually got everything back to the normal / affordable tax rates because of their direct action activism.
Sean O'Torain helped make this happen through his experience with a similar campaign in Ireland years prior.

He also spoke at a Labor Conference here in C-U back in I believe in 2007 at the Institute for Labor and Industrial Relations at the U of I and wrote a book a few years ago tittled ; " The Donegal Woman ", based on the life story of his Grandmother, which takes place in the 1920's and 1930's shortly after the Irish Revolution and the tragic Irish Civil War, who was an Indentured Servant to a wealthy Farmer who raped and brutalized her.
It is a best seller in Ireland and many other English speaking countries EXCEPT the United States. U.S. Publishers wouldn't touch his book with a ten foot pole.

I see also that this new pope, a Jesuit, the ideological thug wing of the Catholic church, is from Argentina. The Catholic church there and internationally crushed their liberation theology wing and took the side of the military dictatorships in Latin America in the slaughter of the left and active workers and peasants. I think the Argentine church even had to apologize for not opposing the dictatorship and its methods in Argentina. So from the last pope, a former Nazi youth member to a man who helped through his organization the murderous military dictatorship in Argentina. What an outfit. Yes the main and brutal church of capitalism.
