 I'm writing to you now because I think you live in the Champaign-Urbana
area.

Today I'm working with MoveOn, the Campaign for Better Health Care, and
Progressives for Democratic Action to organize an event at Rep. Rodney
Davis's office in Champaign to protest the government shutdown. What's
particularly outrageous is that Republicans like Davis are shutting down
the government because they want to cut the funding that's allowing
millions of Americans to get health insurance while they shovel our tax
dollars to fat cat Pentagon contractors like Lockheed Martin for taxpayer
ripoffs like the $1.5 trillion F-35 war plane.

*MoveOn Members Tell House GOP & Speaker Boehner: We Demand a Vote to
Reopen the Government
**Champaign-Urbana Residents Gather to Tell Rep. Rodney Davis to Vote to
Reopen the Government*

Champaign, Illinois - On Friday, October 4, MoveOn.org members, the
Campaign for Better Healthcare, Progressive Democrats of America, and other
concerned residents will be heading to Rep. Rodney Davis’ district office
in Champaign to demand that he vote to end the government shutdown by
supporting a clean Continuing Resolution to fund the government, without
demanding that millions of Americans be blocked from receiving health
insurance. MoveOn members will be carrying signs that read, “We
#DemandAVote,” and “End the #GOPShutdown.”

The local organizer of the event, Robert Naiman, said he decided to plan an
event because, “Republicans have shown they’re willing to hold our
government hostage in a vain attempt to block Americans from receiving
health insurance. The shutdown is depriving Americans of access to
services, forcing hundreds of thousands of public servants to go without
pay, and undermining our economic recovery. Rep. Davis should immediately
pass a clean Continuing Resolution, without demands to defund Americans’
health care. If Rep. Davis wants to cut government spending, he should cut
the bloated Pentagon budget, including the $1.5 trillion F-35 warplane
taxpayer ripoff. He should leave Social Security and Medicare benefits
alone.”

"Over the past 3 years millions of Illinoisans have already directly
benefited from Obamacare," commented Jim Duffett, Executive Director of the
Campaign for Better Health Care. "Starting on January 1st, 2014, over a
million other Illinoisans will be able to have peace of mind and financial
security by enrolling in private sector health care plans through the new
Illinois Marketplace. It is appalling that while Congressman Davis and his
family enjoy peace of mind and financial security because of his tax-payer
funded health insurance, Congressman Davis is willing once again to deny
hard working Americans that same human dignity of access to health care by
continuously voting to shut down the U.S. Government. Shame on the
Congressman!" stressed Duffett.
